Official: Russia may slap digital tax in 2022–2023, waits for OECD

MOSCOW, Apr 14 (PRIME) – Russia may introduce a tax on global digital companies in 2022–2023 with its mechanism depending on a decision of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Sazanov told reporters late on Tuesday.

The organization is discussing the tax. “In July, they are to make a final proposal on the structure of the supranational digital tax and say whether there is an agreed position on introduction of this tax. At the moment, we’re waiting for an OECD decision,” Sazanov said.

Russia has two options – either to join the decision or take its own path if consensus is not found. “We’re working on the digital tax matter to understand where to go because we should see how the world will evolve not to contradict it if there is a global trend. Wwe don’t want to do it,” he said.
